It was a USF Pro 2000 Presented by Cooper Tires debut for Louka St-Jean as the French Canadian also made his debut with Turn 3 Motorsport. Leveling up in class and turning heads instantly, St-Jean proved that he has what it takes to compete against some of the best junior open-wheel racers in the country.
Proving his speed and prowess in his series debut, St-Jean was able to earn top-five results in the test and practice sessions leading into qualifying on Friday afternoon. Motivated to run at the front of the field, the young French Canadian battled hard to earn an inside row three starting spot after an impressive fifth-place effort.
Returning to the track Saturday for the second qualifying session of the weekend that would set the grid for race two, St-Jean was able to prove his pace turning the fourth quickest lap of the session once again and earning himself an outside row two starting position.
Race one was a solid debut for St-Jean in the USF Pro 2000 program though he battled hard at the front of the field, he crossed the line eighth when the checkered flag flew. Racing against drivers with years more experience, the young French Canadian was able to earn his first top-ten result and gain a ton of experience that will benefit him for the future.
Returning to the track Sunday for the second wheel-to-wheel race of the weekend, the pair of drivers on the front row made contact on the formation lap and retired from the race before it even went green. Starting P4, Louka was elevated to the front row and looked to take advantage of the two-position gain. Having never really pushed hard on cold tires in the Pro car before, St-Jean made a small mistake that cost him time and momentum as he fell down the running order. Regrouping and gaining speed, Louka was eventually hit from behind by a fellow competitor that sent him to pit lane for repairs. Getting back on track to continue to learn, the Canadian completed the race despite being two laps behind the rest of the field.
“I learned a ton this weekend and look forward to continuing this upward trend,” explained St-Jean. “Next stop, Mid-Ohio and I can’t wait.”

C’était une première pour Louka St-Jean dans le championnat USF Pro 2000 présenté par Cooper Tires, alors que le Québécois faisait également ses débuts avec Turn 3 Motorsport. Passant à une catégorie supérieure et attirant immédiatement l’attention, St-Jean a prouvé qu’il avait ce qu’il faut pour rivaliser avec certains des meilleurs pilotes juniors en monoplaces du pays.
Prouvant sa vitesse et son talent dès sa première participation à la série, St-Jean a réussi à obtenir des résultats parmi les cinq premiers lors des séances d’essais et d’entraînement précédant les qualifications du vendredi après-midi. Motivé pour se battre à l’avant du peloton, le jeune Québécois a bataillé dur pour décrocher une place sur la troisième ligne de départ après un impressionnant cinquième temps.
De retour sur la piste samedi pour la deuxième séance de qualifications du week-end, qui déterminerait la grille de départ de la deuxième course, St-Jean a de nouveau démontré sa rapidité en réalisant le quatrième meilleur temps de la séance, lui assurant ainsi une place sur la deuxième ligne extérieure.
La première course a été un solide début pour St-Jean dans le programme USF Pro 2000, même s’il s’est battu dur à l’avant du peloton, il a franchi la ligne d’arrivée en huitième position lorsque le drapeau à damier a été agité. En compétition avec des pilotes ayant plusieurs années d’expérience, le jeune Québécois a réussi à obtenir son premier résultat dans le top dix et à acquérir une précieuse expérience qui lui sera bénéfique à l’avenir.
De retour sur la piste dimanche pour la deuxième course du week-end, les deux pilotes de la première ligne se sont touchés lors du tour de formation et ont dû abandonner avant même que le départ ne soit donné. Partant en quatrième position, Louka s’est retrouvé sur la première ligne et espérait tirer parti de cette avancée de deux places. N’ayant jamais vraiment forcé sur des pneus froids dans une monoplace Pro auparavant, St-Jean a commis une petite erreur qui lui a coûté du temps et de l’élan, le faisant chuter dans le classement. Se ressaisissant et gagnant en vitesse, Louka a finalement été percuté par un concurrent par l’arrière, ce qui l’a contraint à rentrer aux stands pour des réparations. Malgré un retard de deux tours sur le reste du peloton, il est parvenu à terminer la course.
“J’ai énormément appris ce week-end et j’ai hâte de continuer cette tendance positive”, a expliqué St-Jean. “Prochaine étape, Mid-Ohio, et je suis impatient.”
